According to news, it was just after the 2008 Beijing Olympics Opening Ceremony that Todd Bachman was stabbed by a Chinese on Saturday.

Todd and Barbara Bachman of Lakeville, Minnesota, were attacked at the Drum Tower, an ancient monument in downtown Beijing, the IOC and Chinese authorities said.
Todd Bachman’s Beijing Olympic stabbing has hit the volleyball world and the Beijing Olympics.
U.S President Bush was in attendance at the Bejing opening ceremony. The White House has already offered assistance in any manner to the Bachman family.
Bush said – “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. And the United States government has offered to provide any assistance the family needs,” .
